The short version

Options Gyan is free education, not advice. Nobody here knows your finances, and nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Options can lose you money faster than you expect, and selling them can lose you more than you put in.

This is education, not investment advice

Every lesson, strategy card, calculator and glossary entry here exists to explain how options work. None of it is a recommendation, a tip, a call, or a suggestion that any particular trade suits you. We do not know your income, your obligations, your risk capacity or your time horizon, and no piece of general education can substitute for somebody who does.

Options Gyan sells nothing, runs no paid group, takes no commission from any broker and never asks for your account credentials. If you ever see Options Gyan apparently offering tips, signals or a Telegram channel, it is not us.

We are not SEBI registered, and we do not need to be

Options Gyan is not a SEBI Registered Investment Adviser (INA registration) and not a SEBI Research Analyst (INH registration). Those registrations exist for people who advise on or recommend specific investments. We do neither, so we hold neither.

We say this plainly because Lesson 13 teaches you to demand exactly those numbers from anybody who wants your money. That check should point at us too. The conclusion is not "trust them anyway", it is "this site may explain, it may not advise, and the moment anyone starts recommending strikes to you, ask for their number".

No affiliation with any exchange, regulator or broker

Options Gyan is an independent educational project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to NSE, BSE, SEBI, NSDL, CDSL, any stockbroker or any financial institution.

NIFTY and related index names are trademarks of NSE Indices Limited. Company names such as Reliance appear only as teaching examples and remain the trademarks of their owners. Their use here is illustrative, implies no relationship, and carries no view on whether the stock is worth buying.

The numbers in the lessons are illustrative, and they go stale

The course runs on a fixed set of teaching figures so the arithmetic stays consistent from Lesson 1 to Lesson 30: NIFTY around 25,000, a lot of 65, a weekly 25,000 call at ₹120, Reliance at ₹1,400 with a lot of 500. These are not live quotes and were never meant to be. They are stage props, chosen to make the mechanics visible.

Real market facts move, and several of them move often: index levels, premiums, implied volatility, lot sizes (revised periodically by the exchanges), the weekly expiry day (which moved from Thursday to Tuesday in late 2025), margin requirements, brokerage and statutory charges, adviser fee caps and income tax rules. Before you place any real trade, confirm the current lot size, expiry, premium and margin with your broker and the exchange. If a figure on this site disagrees with your broker's terminal, your broker is right.

The calculators are teaching tools

The P&L Tools run a standard Black-Scholes model in your browser. Model output is not a market price. Real premiums differ, sometimes a lot, because the model assumes things markets do not honour, and because the bid-ask spread, brokerage, STT, GST, stamp duty and slippage all sit between you and the number on the screen. None of those costs are included. Treat every output as an illustration of the shape of a trade, never as a quote, and never as position sizing you can act on.

Risk warning

Futures and options carry a substantial risk of loss and are not suitable for every investor. When you buy an option you can lose the entire premium. When you sell one your loss is not capped by what you received, and it can exceed the money in your account. SEBI's own studies have repeatedly found that roughly nine in ten individual F&O traders lose money.

Past performance, backtests and worked examples say nothing reliable about future results. Trade only money you can afford to lose entirely, and read the SEBI risk disclosure document your broker is required to give you before you start.

Taxes

The tax lesson describes the shape of F&O taxation in India so you know which questions to ask. Thresholds, rates, audit limits and guidance notes change with every Budget, and your own position depends on facts this site cannot see. It is not tax advice. Use a chartered accountant, whose fee is itself deductible against business income.

Privacy

There are no accounts on Options Gyan, so there is nothing to sign up for and no personal information to hand over. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number or PAN, and we do not sell or share data with anybody.

Stored on your device, never sent to us: your lesson progress, quiz results, experience level and risk profile all live in your own browser's local storage. Everything you type into a calculator is computed on your device and stays there. Clearing your browser data resets all of it.

Anonymous usage analytics: we use PostHog to see which pages get read, which lessons get finished and which calculators get opened, so we know what to fix. It records page views, clicks on links and buttons, and a few named events such as "a calculator was used". It uses local storage rather than cookies, which is why this site has no cookie banner. It does not receive what you type into the calculators and does not build a profile that identifies you. An ad blocker that blocks it will not break anything here.

The suggestions form: what you type on the suggestions page is sent to Web3Forms, a form service that forwards it to us by email, and their terms govern that hop. Only what you put in that form travels: the message, the lesson you picked, and an email address if you chose to give one. Nothing else on the site sends anything.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google's servers see that request. Those, with the analytics above, are the only third parties involved in serving this page.

Accuracy and liability

This material is written carefully and reviewed, but it is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It may contain errors, and parts of it will fall out of date. Options Gyan accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from anything you do, or do not do, on the basis of this site. Your trading decisions are yours alone, and so are their consequences.

Found a mistake? Tell us here. A course about honest numbers should be quick to fix its own, and every correction gets listed publicly on that page.

Education only. Not investment advice. Options Gyan is not SEBI registered and recommends nothing: no tips, no calls, no telegram group, free forever. F&O trading involves a substantial risk of loss, and selling options can lose you more than you put in. Read SEBI’s risk disclosure before trading.
Prices, lot sizes and expiry days in the lessons are illustrative teaching figures, not live quotes: confirm the current ones with your broker. Not affiliated with NSE, BSE, SEBI or any broker. NIFTY is a trademark of NSE Indices Ltd.
